The Future is in Our Hands, Harvest Moon 2014

Nearly two weeks have gone by and people are still talking about TreePeople’s annual gala An Evening Under the Harvest Moon. Thanks to all our donors and sponsors along with all those behind the scenes who helped in making it an exceptional night!

There was a true buzz about Harvest Moon this year, and with a sold out event, we raised $400,000 over the course of the evening. We dined and danced with 450 guests and celebrated three profound honorees who have each helped make Los Angeles a more vibrant and livable city, while strengthening TreePeople’s mission and work.

During the awards presentation to Evergreen Award recipient, Laurie Benenson, a very special announcement of an anonymous one million dollar estate gift in honor of Andy Lipkis and Laurie. Board Chair, Ira Ziering put it best, “It is a wonderful recognition of our 40 years of success and of the unique role we are playing right now in the creation of a greener, healthier and more sustainable Los Angeles. As TreePeople continues to build capacity and support, this milestone gift gives us not only a stronger financial footing but also a validation that our message of citizen activated change is more vital than ever.” For more on this exciting news you can read the press release here.

The night concluded with a premier of a new video “The Future of Los Angeles is in Our Hands”, featuring a variety of prominent leaders and voices from the TreePeople community.

Positive energy keeps flowing in. We have two upcoming opportunities that grew from Harvest Moon and will benefit TreePeople in the coming month that we’d like to share with you.

First, Intikori Furnishings  is donating 25% of all sales made by TreePeople Members through October 31 to TreePeople. At Harvest Moon, Intikori Furnishings exhibited a selection of its fine eco-friendly Peruvian furniture and framed mirrors to an appreciative crowd in the Starbucks Coffee Lounge. “Intikori harvests rare antique and indigenous materials without cutting a single tree,” explains owner and designer Stevenson Adam Whizin. A conservation-driven company that employs local artisans in Lima, Peru, Intikori has already contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to protecting the Peruvian rainforest and support local communities, and is excited to partner with TreePeople in Intikori’s other home, Southern California.

And lastly, TreePeople was fortunate enough to have been able to auction off a beautiful Tahitian cultured pearl necklace by Dora Fourcade Designs . TreePeople supporters are warmly invited to a Holiday Trunk Show, where you will find Dora’s extraordinary jewelry amongst other stunning, eclectic works by Marc Gabor, Liz Marx, Lou Zeldis Collection, and Savannah Stranger. A portion of sales from this event will be donated to TreePeople, The Foster Alumni Co-Mentoring Experience, and Voice for the Animals.
