As Executive Director of Operations, Daniel guides the efforts of TreePeople to inspire, engage and support communities to take action for the environment.
Daniel joined TreePeople as Senior Manager of Policy in 2015, where he focused on the development and deployment of innovative approaches to distributed stormwater management. In 2019, he advanced to Director of Forestry and Urban Greening, leading development and administration of programs and projects to expand urban tree canopy, reforest open spaces and create nature-based solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
Born and raised in New York City, Daniel received a B.A. in political science from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Following a stint as a public school educator, he joined the staff of the American Civil Liberties Union, working as a media liaison for several years before moving on to the ACLU Drug Law Reform Project, where he handled communications and policy on a variety of issues ranging from marijuana decriminalization to racially biased application of drug laws. Daniel next served as Director of the Hudson Valley Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union, overseeing operations in a seven-county region of New York State.
TreePeople marks a return to Daniel’s professional roots, which are firmly grounded in environmental advocacy, with positions held at the New York State Department of Environmental Protection, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and NYC River Project throughout his early career.
