Cold Creek High Trail (CCHT)

This rugged trail travels east to west across the upper reaches of the Calabasas backcountry, from upland hillsides to the lower reaches of Cold Creek and its tributaries. Traversing through pristine chaparral, coastal sage scrub, and riparian habitats, the Cold Creek High Trail provides hikers and mountain bikers a beautiful, challenging route with access to unique natural environments. Dramatic rock outcroppings, rare plants, perennial springs and a large waterfall are found throughout the trail, along with excellent views of the central Santa Monica Mountains. Originally a dirt access road known as the Great American Trail (for the bank that owned the property), TPLT acquired the trail and surrounding property in 2010, preserving an important habitat corridor between Malibu Creek and Topanga State Parks while expanding the greater Cold Creek Preserve.

The Cold Creek High Trail has two trailheads, one at mile marker 2.06 on Stunt Road and the other mile marker 1.43 on Cold Canyon Road. Limited roadside parking is available at each trailhead.

On the western end of the trail, trail users can connect with the Monte Nido trail network, while on the eastern end users can connect with the Stunt High Trail, Backbone Trail and other trails in the Cold Creek area.
