Urban Tree Planting & Care

Expanding our urban forest has been at the heart of TreePeople’s work for decades. We are partnering with several communities to plant and distribute trees in areas that need it most in order to combat the urban heat island effect, improve air quality, and increase climate resilience. Help us shade and cool our cities by planting and caring for climate-appropriate trees. Volunteers will spend the morning learning about urban forestry, the benefits of trees, and how to properly plant and care for young trees. Our work will create cleaner, cooler, and more climate resilient communities for generations to come.

Time: 9am-12pm

Tree Planting Season: November-May

Tree Care Season: June-October

Locations: San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, South Los Angeles, Southeast Los Angeles, and the Inland Empire

TreePeople has a long-standing commitment to restoring our region’s local mountains. We are currently working across multiple locations in Angeles National Forest restoring areas affected by wildfires and the invasive Gold-spotted Oak borer beetle. Additionally, we continue our legacy of habitat restoration and trail work at the TreePeople Land Trust in the Santa Monica Mountains. Help us rewild our local ecosystems by planting and caring for native species and removing non-native, invasive vegetation. Volunteers will spend the morning learning about our local ecosystems, fire ecology, and native plant species. Our work will improve the biodiversity, fire resistance, and climate resilience of our beloved wild spaces across Southern California.

Time: 9am-12pm

Planting Season: November-May

Care Season: June-October

Locations: Angeles National Forest, Santa Monica Mountains.

Urban Parks & Trails

TreePeople is dedicated to enhancing and maintaining the health of our region’s parks and trails. Our work spans many parks and trails across our city, including our very own 45-acre headquarters at Coldwater Canyon Park. Volunteers will contribute to revitalizing community parks and recreational trails through a variety of activities which may include removing invasive species, caring for existing trees and plants, maintaining trails, and much more. Through hands-on activities, participants will learn about our local ecology, the benefits of open spaces, and the vital role they play in protecting biodiversity and supporting our communities.

Time: 10am-12pm, 9am-12pm

Planting Season: November-May

Care Season: June-October

Locations: Coldwater Canyon Park, Betty Dearing Trail, and Zev Yaroslovsky LA River Greenway Trail.

Our Lunch & Learn presentations - offered both virtually or in-person - cover a range of topics, from urban forestry and climate resilience to waste management and DIY training. Through engaging discussions led by expert educators, participants will explore the connections between healthy ecosystems and sustainable cities. Join us for an interactive session that will inspire you to be a steward of the environment, whether at home, at work, or in your community.
