Events

TreePeople Presents events are where arts and activism converge in Southern California – creating a new space to explore the connections between creativity and the environment.

TreePeople Presents is focused on curating experiences that you can’t find anywhere else in Los Angeles’ crowded yet homogenous entertainment landscape. We’re focused on giving artistic communities a space where their voice can be heard to the fullest–diving into what makes them unique and exciting. Be it film screening events that allow us to nerd out on the eccentricities of our favorite creators, concerts where musicians can merge art and activism, or community conversations that explore the natural world around us, events that engage have a home at TreePeople’s S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre.

We update our calendar frequently; check back for new experiences and sign up for our newsletter to get the most up-to-date information. If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities, please visit treepeople.org/volunteer.

Living Earth, TreePeople and International Anthem Present:

Saul Williams Meets Carlos Niño And Friends

We are determining the future at this very moment.
We now know that the heart is the philosophers’ stone.
Our music is our alchemy.
– Saul Williams, “Coded Language”

On December 18th we gather among friends, underneath a canopy of oak and black walnut trees, for a summit of sound between two keystone species within our arts ecosystem. This nightfall is where pen meets drum brush, affirmations of resilience are interwoven with transcendental co-compositions, and where Saul Williams meets Carlos Niño & Friends.

All Ages. SOLD OUT. NO TICKET SALES AT THE VENUE.
A Live Recording Session.
We will be outdoors, among the wildlife,
and at the whim of this final week of autumn.
Please dress for warmth, bring extra layers,
and we’ll have hot tea waiting for you upon arrival.
Please be mindful when bringing animals to the venue (good around people and other animals, can handle loud noises, and won’t produce loud noises).

General Information

We always encourage rideshare as our parking is limited. Parking information will be sent out with the ticket information. If the TreePeople lot is full, there is limited parking in the neighborhood surrounding. Please do not block any driveways or park in non-designated spots in Franklin Canyon Park. Please note Franklin Canyon Park closes at sundown. Additional parking can be found at Wilacre Park on Laurel Canyon Blvd., which will require an approximately 35 minute hike up to TreePeople Headquarters.

Our Parking Grove is located at Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Mulholland Drive, just a few minutes above Studio City. Look for the green TreePeople sign at the entrance, opposite the stoplight, on the east side of that intersection.

TreePeople is not responsible for personal belongings left in vehicles; please do not leave important items out in full view of your vehicle.

Comfortable, flat-soled shoes are recommended. If you need vehicle access, please let us know in advance and plan to arrive no later than 30 minutes before the performance to avoid any delay in getting to your seats.

Principal access to the amphitheatre is via hillside stairways and mulched trails.

Please check your email to know where the event is taking place and view our map below for orientation.

Your reservations guarantee you seating in either our main bleachers, directly opposite the stage, or in folding chairs around the stage and on the trail overlooking the venue. The specific location of your seats is based on a first-come, first-served basis. The venue typically opens one hour before show time.

All tickets are nonrefundable, so don’t forget to mark your calendars!

Reservations made by credit card are available online or at the door. Depending on the event, tickets may be available at the box office. Admission prices vary depending on the show. Please check individual event listings for more information. We do not accept cash payments.

We provide simple foam pads for your comfort to place on the bleachers. You're welcome to bring your own. As evening comes, it usually cools down so you might want to have a sweater, light jacket, or lap blanket to keep warm. Blankets are occasionally on sale on-site.

There are a number of sites throughout our 45-acre park that are great for picnicking at any hour, some with wonderful views of the San Fernando Valley. You may picnic in the amphitheatre itself. The venue typically opens one hour before the show for early picnickers. Please avoid excess packaging and use the recycling and trash bins located near the box office and throughout the park.

Bathrooms are located on the same level as the main parking lot between the nursery and the conference center, two levels up from the amphitheatre.

Coldwater Canyon Park was built nearly 100 years ago, and persons with ADA requirements will most likely need special accommodations to access our amphitheatre events. Please reach out to events@treepeople.org with any questions or requests, and we will try to accommodate your needs.

The S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre was built in 1997 with the support of many generous donors including Steve Martin, Bonnie Raitt, Ron Howard, and Johnny Carson. The Actors Conservatory Ensemble (ACE), a volunteer theater company run by TreePeople Director of Park Operations Jim Hardie, co-presented many concerts, play readings, comedy nights and family shows in the venue 1998-2023 under the banner of “Once Upon a Canyon Night.” TreePeople thanks ACE for their decades of dedication to the space and organization–bringing thousands of people together to enjoy programming and the park.

The amphitheatre underwent a renovation funded by the S. Mark Taper Foundation from 2020-2022 in order to upgrade the space with permanent state of the art lighting, sound, and improved seating. TreePeople reopened the amphitheatre with a benefit concert to commemorate the organization’s 50th anniversary with performances by Beck, Van Dyke Parks, Courtney Barnett, and more.

TreePeople Presents:

MALIA

Often described as healing, MALIA’s sounds aren’t just something you listen to, they’re something you feel. Originally from the pacific northwest, the alternative R&B/neo-soul songstress garnered some initial buzz after opening for The Internet’s Syd on her West Coast tour in late 2017.

Since then, she’s amassed millions of streams on her LPs Late Bloomer, Ripe and What’s After, ‘I Love You?’ MALIA’s new album Back in My Body is a follow-up to the heartbreak dealt with in 2022’s What’s After, ‘I Love You?’ — it highlights the healing journey of becoming conscious of the unconscious and the powerful metamorphosis of reclaiming responsibility for one’s life. As if spilling off the journal pages, the lyrical content speaks to re-writing her own story, addressing trauma and healing inner wounds. Years of hardening and buried beauty are addressed in this softening, leading a new found path out of her head and back into her body: a better version of herself emerges.

TreePeople Presents:

Nailah Hunter

The LA-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Nailah Hunter has been recording mystical folk and ambient-inspired music since 2019, releasing a series of singles and two EPs: Spells and, most recently, Quietude. Now signed to Fat Possum, Lovegaze is Hunter’s debut full-length, an enthralling album that draws listeners into her enchanting cosmology.

As the daughter of a Belizean pastor, Hunter began her musical journey in the church where she played drums, guitar and sang in the choir. She continued on to study music at CalArts, where she studied vocal performance and was given her first harp lesson. Associating the instrument with fantasy, psychedelia, and dream worlds, Hunter became an immediate devotee, locking herself in a room for six hours a day to practice the instrument.

To make Lovegaze, Hunter decamped to a small coastal city along the English Channel where she began recording demos with a borrowed celtic harp. After being introduced to London-based producer Cicely Goulder, Hunter returned to England a year later to further develop the songs. The resulting collection, Lovegaze, is a bewitching testament to the resiliency of the natural world.
