Cold Creek Valley Preserve (CCVP)

Home to multiple public trails and a wide range of diverse habitats, the Cold Creek Valley Preserve provides recreational opportunities in a high quality ecological setting.

Established in the early 1990s to protect the Cold Creek valley basin from further development, CCVP has grown to include much of the adjoining open space along Stunt Road near Calabasas. Located on an ancient trade route, the indigenous people of Southern California have used the area for hunting and settlement for generations, leaving a lasting influence visible on the land. The perennial Cold Creek is the keystone feature of the area, one of the cleanest free-flowing streams in the Santa Monica Mountains. Central to the preserve is the Yucca Trail Loop, one of TPLT’s most popular trails, a short rolling route through mature chaparral and riparian environments. The loop branches eastward towards the Stunt High Trail, which provides a more rugged, challenging experience offering excellent views of the local mountains. These trails and others connect to the wider trail network in the Stunt Road / Cold Creek area, allowing for many route possibilities. The neighboring UCLA Stunt Ranch is once again hosting students for educational trips to the area in coordination with TreePeople Land Trust, continuing a tradition started by the Cold Creek Docents many years ago.
