10 Ways for Angelenos to Enjoy El Nino Storms

Angelenos, listen up! Forecasters are anticipating some El Niño storms through March–maybe even April. If you’re looking for ways to weather the storm (pun intended!), we’ve got you covered! Here are 10 tips to keep you occupied:

1. Cook up a storm (in the storm)

It can be easy to forget the impact our diet has on the environment. After all, water conservation isn’t always the first thing on our minds when we’re starting at a piping hot pizza. While you’re stuck indoors this weekend, break out your chef hat and whip up these delicious, drought-friendly tacos

2. Netflix & Krill

If you’re looking to stay off the road, good thinking! Instead, bundle up with hot cocoa and watch some Planet Earth on Netflix. Yummy, cozy and educational.

3. #Humblebrag

Have you installed rain barrels or tanks? Good on you! Take to Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #wateryoudoing to share your rainwater capture success with your friends and family. (Late to the game? That’s okay! Join us for our next rain barrel distribution to get situated before the next storm.)

4. Expand Your Brain

5. GET OUTSIDE!

Why not put on your rain boots and spend a little time outdoors? Do a little dance, capture drops on your tongue, or simply enjoy the cool, fresh air.

7. Create an adventure

If your family (or roommates!) are getting stir-crazy, set up an indoor camping excursion. Pitch a tent in the living room. Hike the stairs. Tell scary stories while enjoying some s’mores. (PS: No camping trip is complete without a campfire.

8. Keep an eye out

When the rain clears, go on a hunt to find a rainbow! (If you post it on Instagram, be sure to tag @TreePeopleLA so we can enjoy it, too!)

9. Cuddle up with a good book

Is anything more snuggly than listening to the rain overhead while reading a good book? If you need a new read, visit The Last Bookstore in downtown LA. There’s plenty to explore and look at!

10. Keep on keeping on!

We’re still in a drought, even with a few inches of rain. Let’s keep up our efforts to conserve and fight drought. If your sprinkler system is automatic, turn them off for a few days to help make LA water-secure.
