UPDATE: Drought Response Forum

As we shared here last week, we recently hosted the forum “In Case of Emergency, Plant Trees: Reducing Mortality Risk in the Face of LA’s Hotter, Drier Future” at Los Angeles City Hall.

More than 100 Angelenos heard from speakers and engaged in conversations about how our city can learn from the lessons of Australia in weathering its recent 12-year drought and episodes of record-breaking heat. Much thanks to our speakers and co-sponsors Climate Resolve, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and our friends at Monash University in Australia for conducting — and sharing — groundbreaking research.

Fortunately, for those of you who weren’t able to attend, Speaker presentations are available for download on our dropbox. Please feel free to use the data with appropriate reference and credit given to researchers. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to either Phoebe Lipkis at plipkis@treepeople.org or the speakers directly.

summary of the break-out groups with information on what emerged from the smaller facilitated conversations are also available for download.

We also invite you to explore The CRC for Water Sensitive Cities, an Australia-based organization dedicated to researching and investing in urban water management solutions, education and training programs, and industry engagement.

The event received some great media coverage. In case you missed it, the NBC news piece that aired on March 25 can be seen here.

A video recording of presentations will be available soon and shared for people who could not make it to the live talk.

Please give us your feedback! We’d like to keep you involved in the conversation and make sure the we’re sharing useful and relevant information.
