TreePeople’s Monthly Newsletter for June 2026

Summer has officially arrived, and there’s plenty to be excited about at TreePeople. Over the next few weeks, we’re bringing together filmmakers, musicians, photographers, environmental leaders, and community members for a series of events at Coldwater Canyon Park that explore our relationship with nature in inspiring and unexpected ways. Whether you’re looking to learn, connect, or simply enjoy, I hope you’ll join us.

I’m especially excited about our upcoming screening of Groundswell, a powerful documentary that examines the promise of regenerative agriculture as a solution to some of our biggest environmental challenges. This special fundraiser for TreePeople in our very own S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre will feature a live discussion with the film’s director and producer and an optional VIP experience. This Friday, our beloved Moonlight Hikes continue with a special performance by Jordan Lee of Mutual Benefit followed by a guided nighttime hike with our Eco-Educators through Coldwater Canyon. We are also honored to host the nationally touring Wildfire Resilience: A Transcontinental Conversation, a moving collection of images that captures both the devastation of wildfire and the resilience of the communities and landscapes that endure.

Join us for one or all of these experiences. Tickets are available for all of these events!

With gratitude,
Cassie Rauser, Ph.D.

Benefit Screening of Groundswell

On Sunday, July 19th at 7pm, join us for a special benefit screening of Groundswell—a powerful film that explores community-driven solutions to today's environmental challenges and the collective action needed to build a more resilient future. This special event is a fundraiser to help TreePeople plant and care for trees, educate the future, and restore wild and urban ecosystems for a happier, healthier Southern California.

Following the screening, stay for a live, intimate conversation featuring Groundswell's Director Rebecca Tickell, Producer Laurie Benenson, and TreePeople’s Fielding Family CEO, Cassie Rauser. Together, they'll explore the film's themes, discuss the vital role of environmental stewardship, and share inspiring examples of how local communities can take meaningful action in the face of climate and ecological challenges. Come early at 6pm to view History in Bloom!

Let’s Hike in the Moonlight!

Lace up your hiking boots and meet us on the trails for a Moonlight Hike at TreePeople! For our first Moonlight Hike of the summer season on Friday, June 26th at 7pm, we’re incredibly grateful to welcome Jordan Lee of Mutual Benefit, who will be sharing a selection of brand-new music.

This will be his only performance in town, so we hope you’ll be able to spend the evening with us. Bring a blanket, pour some tea, and settle into the magic. Music begins at 7pm, followed by the hike at 8pm.

Tell your friends, bring your family, and join us for a beautiful night of music, moonlit trails, and learning about nature.

Wildfire Photography Exhibition & Conversation

On Saturday, July 18 from 3-5pm, please join us for a special exhibition and conversation about wildfires across two continents in our Schuman Family Foundation Conference Center. Wildfire Resilience: A Transcontinental Conversation invites the public to explore the shared challenge of wildfires through powerful photography, storytelling, and community dialogue. Initiated by award-winning Nigerian conservation ecologist Dr. Iroro Tanshi, the exhibit highlights connections between communities in Nigeria and the American West. View a journey of wildfire’s impact on wildlife and livelihoods, as well as the inspiring local action being taken to protect both. History in Bloom will be on view at the same time in the space

At 4pm, hear from Dr. Tanshi during a special conversation and Q&A on wildfire resilience, conservation, and community-led solutions.

Anatomy of a Montane Conifer Forest

Have you ever ventured high into the mountains in SoCal and suddenly found yourself surrounded by conifer trees? You may have come across a montane conifer forest!

Found in SoCal’s higher altitudes, these evergreen forests host a unique array of plant and animal species, help preserve and clean our water supplies, and provide mountain recreation opportunities for countless Angelenos. That’s why our Conservation team is currently planting thousands of native conifer seedlings to help restore them after fire. Read on to learn more about how these fascinating ecosystems function, and how you can help protect them!

Growing Together 💚

Volunteers, longtime donors, neighbors, and new friends–you are the heartbeat of our movement. Seeing everyone together reminds us of something beautiful: the shade we enjoy today is because someone cared enough to plant a tree decades ago.

That got us thinking about the future. How do we keep this green momentum going for the next 50 years? The following 100?

Whether you want to get your hands dirty next weekend or help us secure the next century of restoration work, we’ve put together a few ways we can grow this future together!
