Join Us Next Friday Grab your hiking boots and join us on the trails for a Moonlight Hike at TreePeople next Friday 2/27! Things kick off with a special performance from Aaron Shaw as part of our partnership with Living Earth. Aaron Shaw has steadily become one of LA’s sweetest and most in demand players, sharing sounds city-wide alongside artists like Saul Williams, Carlos Niño, Herbie Hancock, Anderson .Paak, Kamasi Washington, and Tyler, The Creator. For many years now he and his brother have been playing, recording, touring, and composing as Black Nile, and this week we finally receive the long-awaited debut album of Aaron Shaw as bandleader. Bring a blanket, pour some tea, and bliss in. Music begins at 7pm with the hike following at 8pm. Tell your friends, bring your family, and join us for another magical evening of music, hikes, and learning about nature. Tickets here |

New Volunteering Opportunity! We’re excited to announce new volunteering opportunities at TreePeople Land Trust near Calabasas! Together, we’ll be maintaining trails alongside ancient oaks, sweeping views, and a waterfall! The Cold Creek High Trail offers access to pristine oak woodland, riparian, chaparral, and wetland environments. This trail experienced heavy erosion during the recent storms and is in need of restoration. We also have our Outreach Volunteer Program that is recently relaunched as well (in case you would like to deepen our impact with a much lighter lift)! Join us! Sign up at our volunteer calendar! |

A new analysis finds that some 44% of Los Angeles County’s 312,000 acres of pavement may not be essential for roads, sidewalks, or parking and could be reconsidered. Emily Tyrer, our Director of Green Infrastructure, spoke with the Los Angeles Times about why pavement is expanding in residential yards and has critical trade-offs. We have the power to change the urban landscape! Xiomara Duran, our Community Forestry Associate Manager, spoke with the Los Angeles Daily News about TreePeople’s West Valley Greening Project. 5,000 five gallon trees will be distributed to residents and 1,000 fifteen-gallon shade trees will be planted in public spaces. Students from Boyle Heights’ Bravo High spilled out into TreePeople’s Coldwater Canyon Park and took off hiking. As they looked around the sage and monkeyflower-lined path, their chatter quieted, and soon, they were writing poetry. Read more in the Los Angeles Times. |
