TreePeople’s Monthly Newsletter for August 2026

Dear TreePeople Community,

As we live through another heat wave, it reminds us of the pivotal roles that shade plays in our lives. That is why we launched a bold new plan to plant 28,000 trees throughout the greater Los Angeles region.

As LA prepares to welcome the world in 2028, we have the opportunity to create a legacy that continues to grow long after the closing ceremonies have ended. We’re so excited to introduce Rooting for LA!

Trees are essential, living infrastructure that help cool our streets, increase biodiversity, capture water, clean our air, and so much more. The trees we plant over the next two years represent 28,000 opportunities to create a healthier, more resilient Los Angeles region for the people who call it home.

Rooting With Partners!

At Lanark Park in the San Fernando Valley, TreePeople staff and volunteers from Delta Air Lines gathered together to host a community tree care and tree distribution event–deepening our shared commitment to enhancing green spaces in the Los Angeles region ahead of 2028. Delta Air Lines’ foundational support of Rooting for LA illustrates the impact that can come from bringing organizations together behind a common vision for a healthier, cooler, more resilient Los Angeles.

Partnerships like these demonstrate the kind of lasting local impact that can grow when we focus on creating a living legacy of healthier communities and more resilient ecosystems. Interested in becoming a partner in our vision for a greener region? Email partnerships@treepeople.org, and we will find the right path to working together!

Prepping for Wildfire Season

Wildfires are a natural part of California’s landscape and ecology. Unfortunately, they’re becoming more severe and happening more often than the landscape is adapted for. To get ready for our increasingly intense fire seasons here in SoCal, we spend months prepping the boundaries of our wilderness areas at our TreePeople Land Trust. Here’s how we do it.
