TreePeople’s Monthly Newsletter for March 2026

History in Bloom

Step into TreePeople’s story with our new archival exhibition! This show traces our beginnings in 1973, the milestones that shaped our journey, and the people who helped grow a movement to plant and care for trees across Southern California. Through photographs and stories, visitors will get a glimpse of the passion and purpose that has powered our work for generations.

From early volunteer tree plantings to watershed restoration and nature-based solutions, the exhibition shows how a small grassroots effort grew into a regional force for environmental stewardship.

Open to the public: March 23 – April 8, 2026, Mon - Saturday, 10am - 2pm
Location: Schuman Family Foundation Conference Center at TreePeople 12601 Mulholland Drive, 90210

Moonlight Hike (3/27)

For our first moonlight hike of the spring, Living Earth is programming something very new and exciting… our first ever quadraphonic performance. Marco Bárcena, current council member and former Mayor of Bell Gardens, will be joining us in the round at Coldwater Canyon Park for an immersive and improvisatory quad performance for synthesizer. Maybe you’ve seen his surprise cameo in a differentchairs video that went viral, seen him at the skatepark, or been to one of his many outdoor concerts in Ford Park. As always, the music will be followed by a hike led by our very own Eco-Educators! There are three levels of difficulty. Bring the whole family!

Pollinator Palooza

This Earth Month, everyone is BUZZING about Pollinator Palooza! On April 25th, join us for our biggest Earth Day celebration of the year at beautiful Castaic Lake, where we’re celebrating the beautiful butterflies, bees, birds, bats, and other pollinators that support our ecosystem here in SoCal. We will be planting and giving away narrowleaf milkweed to expand habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators at Castaic Lake. There will be free educational activities, prizes, and fun for the whole family—including a pollinator fashion show!

Saving the Monarchs

The native milkweed planting at Castaic Lake is just part of our sweeping effort to plant more than 5,000 of these plants across the Angeles National Forest, in an effort to increase critically-needed habitat for the Western monarch butterfly. In recent years, Western monarch populations have reached near record lows, and planting milkweed—their only host plant—is one of the best ways we can protect this beloved pollinator. Learn more about our milkweed planting efforts on our blog!
