TreePeople’s Monthly Newsletter for January 2026

Happy New Year

As we step into this new year, we invite you to read this letter from our new CEO, Dr. Cassie Rauser. Guided by stories of connection and care for the natural world, Cassie shares what has shaped her journey and why TreePeople’s mission feels so deeply personal. Her words honor the people and vision that have brought us here, while inviting us forward together into what comes next. Echoing Cassie’s sentiment for this new chapter, “[Our] hope is that 2026 is marked by stability, clarity, and renewed momentum.”

Join Us This Friday

If you still haven’t been on one of our Moonlight Hikes, you’re missing out. Each fourth Friday of the month, we team up with Living Earth to present music beneath the trees in beautiful Coldwater Canyon Park, followed by a hike led by TreePeople’s Eco-Educators. We think it’s the best date night in LA (though we’re biased). This month, we’re joined by Lance Hill of Vintage Synthesizer Museum. Hit up your bae or bestie and get your tickets today!

A Year After the Hughes Fire

In January 2025, the Hughes Fire swept through over 10,000 acres near Castaic Lake—including 25 acres where our Conservation team had been planting oak seedlings since 2021. Just two months later, something amazing happened: the oaks began to resprout. Now we’re looking at a year after the wildfire and seeing how our team has been able to survey the natural healing of our native chapparral and oak woodlands, while also removing invasives and making more space for wildfire resilience in the years to come.
