TreePeople’s Monthly Newsletter for September 2025

Join us Outside for Events!

As we potentially shift from our hot/dry to our cool/wet months (we’ll see about the wet), we’re hosting some amazing experiences coming up. Starting with Plantamonium this Saturday, September 20th at 6pm, People Inside Electronics will be making an ode to the cult-favorite Mother Earth's Plantasia by Mort Garson as well as playing some original tracks inspired by the now-famous album. The album has a fun little secret history of Los Angeles that you can read about on Garson’s website! Tickets are still available.

Next Thursday, singer and actor Fin Argus (Queer as Folk, Clouds on Disney+, and more) will be premiering their music video and singing songs that are both beautiful and heartbreaking. Join us for this intimate evening on Thursday, September 24th at 7pm.

If you want to pair music with something active to get your body moving while you learn about the environment, look no further than our monthly Moonlight Hikes (where the music is always programmed by Living Earth). September’s hike is nearly sold out so grab your tickets ASAP! We also have our Haunted Hike scheduled for October, and, while we don’t have the artists announced yet, you can still reserve your spot for one of the best date nights in Los Angeles for November and December’s hikes. Check our calendar for full list of events!

Finally, TreePeople and Living Earth are thrilled to announce that Saul Williams will be returning to TreePeople with Carlos Niño & Friends for two evenings of performances. We will be celebrating the launch of their album “Saul Williams meets Carlos Niño & Friends at TreePeople,” released with International Anthem. You can read more about this album in Rolling Stone and purchase tickets for the October 2nd and 4th performances here. These are sure to sell out, so purchase your tickets ASAP.

The Plants of Tovaangar

The Tongva people gave the native plants of this region their original names. Now, you can learn about those names–and their significance to the history and culture of the Tongva people–as part of a new audio tour at Coldwater Canyon Park. On September 27th at 11:30am, we’ll be launching The Plants of Tovaangar: Native Plants in their Native Language, an interactive, self-guided tour narrated by Tongva elder and language researcher Virginia Carmelo. Join us for a special panel discussion about how the project came together with Carmelo and linguist Dr. Pamela Munro, and then take the new tour along our scenic Torrey Pines Trail!

Help us find the hidden bioswales of LA!

Here in California, rainfall can be unpredictable, with some years bringing seemingly endless rainstorms while others remain bone dry. That’s why when we DO get rain, it’s important to find ways to capture it and return it to our groundwater supply. And that’s where bioswales come in! These sustainable, nature-based systems are a great way to capture and filter more water. Right now, we’re working to research the role bioswales play here in SoCal and want to study as many as possible. Check out our new IG post to learn how to ID a bioswale—and then let us know in the comments if you’ve seen one in your neighborhood!
